The Infant Studies Centre at UBC is a dynamic, interdisciplinary research centre in the Department of Psychology. The focus of the research in the Centre is to understand the biases infants bring to language learning, and how these changes as a function of age and language experience, with the overall goal being to understand the link between perceptual development and mature language use, using both behavioral and neural imaging techniques. In addition to the primary centre at UBC, there is also a newborn lab at the BC Children and Woman s Hospital.
The successful candidate will coordinate these various research endeavors and work actively with the wide range of students, post-doctoral fellows, technicians, and other research collaborators involved in the Centre. The position will also entail overall administrative responsibility for the functioning of the Centre and assistance with preparation of grants and scientific publications.
Work Performed
- Coordinates multiple research endeavours, develops and maintains project plans, oversees project delivery and manages the overall administration of the Centre including finances.
- Conducts research in the Centre, supervised by the Centre Director, including consulting on design and implementation, overseeing hardware configuration and software performance, oversees data collection.
- Analyzes data, and assists in preparation of journal submissions concerning the research results.
- Manages the financial concerns of the Centre, including administering and monitoring the status of grant funds. Prepares and submits grant applications.
- Determines and prioritizes project timelines and work plans. Manages the hiring and appointment of student research assistants, post-doctoral fellows, and other position within the Centre.
- Acts as a liaison between the Centre and relevant Department and University staff, as well as outside stakeholders.
