Research Themes:  The Communicating Mind and Body

Sylvia Chan is a PhD candidate in Audiology and Speech Sciences at UBC, and currently working at the Pediatric Audiology Lab under the supervision of Dr.Susan Small.  

Her dissertation topic investigates how acoustic features of naturally produced high-frequency consonant-vowel stimuli correspond the neural encoding at different levels of auditory pathways in normal hearing infants and adults versus those with sensory hearing loss and how speech discrimination at the brainstem and the cortical pathways correlates with perceptual responses.
