Hello!
I’m currently a Ph.D. student at the University of British Columbia’s Department of Linguistics.
My primary research interest lies in the interface between phonetics and phonology. Specifically, I am interested in information-theoretic approaches to phonology and how this aspect of phonology influences speech processing and sound change.
For my first qualifying paper, I have looked at how functional load of Cantonese lexical tones impact their perceived similarity in homeland and heritage Cantonese speakers. For my second qualifying paper, I incorporated a syllable representation in Phonological CorpusTools and implemented a phonological search function that allows users to do searches by specifying syllabic constituents.
I am also one of the contributors to Sign Language Phonetic Annotator+Analyzer.
