Research Themes: The Communicating Mind and Body
Line (/laɪn/) is an MA student in linguistics at the University of British Columbia. They are broadly interested in phonetics and sociolinguistics, and are currently interested in better understanding what information about a talker's social identity is conveyed by their voice, how talkers may use their voices to express themselves socially, and how this aligns (or not) with the social features different listeners attribute to voices they hear. Their Master's thesis research focuses on understanding within-gender phonetic variation in the speech of women, men, and non-binary individuals.
