Jade LaFontaine is an Indigenous PhD Student at the University of British Columbia.
he n skʷest Jade LaFontaine tuł Spuzzum ʔe ƛ̓ʔak wn, he nskixzeʔ Catherine LaFontaine, he nsqaczeʔ Chief James Hobart. Jade LaFontaine is Nlakaʼpamux and Algonquin with mixed European ancestry. She is currently an uninvited resident on the shared territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Jade is completing her PhD at the University of British Columbia focusing her work on the reclamation and vitality of her ancestral language, traditional cultural practices and knowledges, as well as the relationship between language and land.
