Research Themes:  The Communicating Mind and Body

My main interests are: language learning, language change, and especially how these two are related. My M.A. approached this from a sociophonetic standpoint, looking at the role of children and teenagers in advancing vowel shifts. I continue to work on this but am beginning to look at the levels of syntax and discourse as well. My other long-standing interests are language evolution and animal communication.
