Research Themes: Evolving Language in an Information Economy
Dr. Heidi Tworek is a historian of communications and media. She uses approaches from history, media studies, political science, economics, and digital humanities to understand the role of communications in society. Her current projects include the history of health communications, the history of news agencies, and the history of how wireless technology affected news. Tworek’s work has appeared in journals including Business History Review, Journal of Global History, Journalism Studies, and Journalism: Theory, Criticism, and Practice. She was awarded the Herman E. Krooss Prize for best dissertation in business history and recently received a grant from the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund to create a History Lab course at UBC to combine teaching and research in digital humanities.
