Research Themes: The Communicating Mind and Body
Paola Colozzo is Associate Professor in the School of Audiology and Speech Sciences and the Director of the Child Language and Cognition Lab. Her research has two main themes:
Cognitive processing, cognitive strategies, and language in children, which explores the bidirectional interactions between language and cognition in typically developing children and those with language impairments. It has theoretical implications for models of working memory and of language processing, as well as for better understanding the online processing demands of language production. It also has the potential to inform us regarding the role of language in supporting or constraining performance on higher-level cognitive tasks, and to eventually provide valuable insight that will inform intervention.
Supporting language and communication development of children, teenagers and adults with developmental disabilities. This research takes a cognitive processing perspective in order to further our understanding of the underpinnings and manifestations of language disorders within and across diagnostic categories (specific language impairment, autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome).
