Murray is the Research and Archives Manager for the Department of Linguistics.
He has a PhD in linguistics (UBC), as well as a Master of Archival Studies (UBC). Murray’s main linguistics research interests involve the interaction of language and music including the realization of lexical tone when singing in tone languages (particularly in Cantonese and Mandarin), the carry-over of spoken accent to singing performance, and influences of phonological structure on text setting. His archival interests focus on language archiving, with an emphasis on the preservation of and access to audio/visual materials and language data.
