Research Themes: The Communicating Mind and Body
Molly Babel is the director of UBC’s Speech in Context lab. Her work focuses on speech perception and production and the interaction between them, with a strong theme of cross-linguistic and cross-dialectal inquiry. She has done extensive work on phonetic imitation and convergence, on the role of experience and exposure to phonetic and phonological knowledge, on how social knowledge may be manifested phonetically, and on the mental representation of phonetic and phonological knowledge.
