The Communicating Mind and Body

Sonja is an experienced linguist with a track record in teaching, research, and fieldwork.

Sonja is currently working for the language and culture team at FNESC (First Nations Education Steering Committee) as language coach, supporting First Nations language teachers all over BC in their classrooms. She’s also been developing Halq’meylem language resources for Stó:lō Nation since 2017, and continues to work with communities in applying for grants, supporting language learners, and developing resources.

Sonja is lucky enough to live, work and play in the Kootenays with her family, on the unceded and ancestral territories of the Interior Salish and Ktunaxa peoples. She loves to be out in nature, rollerskate (yes, the kind with 4 wheels), and practice the martial art Aikido.
