Research Themes: The Communicating Mind and Body
Dr. Drew Weatherhead is the director of the Centre for Cognition and Language Learning at Dalhousie University. She previously completed her PhD. in Psychology from the University of Waterloo, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia.
Her research focuses on how variability in linguistic properties (such as accent or pronunciation differences) and non-linguistic social characteristics of speakers (such as race, gender, nationality, and social group membership) influence language acquisition. She primarily works with infants and young children, and uses both behavioural measures (eye-tracking) and neuroimaging (fNIRS).
