It is with great gratitude and nostalgia that Language Sciences bids farewell to Coordinator Ella Fund-Reznicek. As of January 1st, 2024, Ella will be joining the Office of the Dean of Arts as Arts Research Centre Administrator, providing high-level support to the various research centres across the faculty – including the Language Sciences Institute. We will be sharing the job posting for her successor in the New Year.
Ella first joined Language Sciences as coordinator July 2017, after completing an MA in Linguistics at UBC in 2016, and working as a Program Assistant in the Faculty of Medicine. During her eventful six years at Language Sciences, she organized numerous events, including public screenings of Conlanging in 2018 and CODA in 2022. She also supported and facilitated the SSHRC Connection Grant Workshop Envisioning a Language Science of Literacy in spring 2018. Most remarkably, she facilitated Language Science’s proposal to become a Global Research Excellence Institute in 2020-2021, which is fundamental to the continuous growth of the Institute.
“I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know and support the work of so many faculty, postdocs, and graduate students across the Language Sciences, so while I’m excited about this change, it’s also very bittersweet. I still look forward to helping in new ways in my new capacity, and finding opportunities to link LangSci members with researchers at our neighboring centres,” says Ella.
We wish Ella every success in her new role, and look forward to working with her in new capacities.
