Mushtaq Soofi is a celebrated poet, critic and advocate for the Punjabi language in Pakistan, where despite the numerical dominance of ethnic Punjabis, Urdu dominates and Punjabi has a peripheral status.

Everyone is invited to attend and hear him describe the Punjabi-language advocacy movement in Pakistan and its place in the larger context of language politics in Pakistan.

The featured image is a poster from the International Mother Language Day Celebration in Lahore Pakistan, February 21 2014.  Its English translation is 'Teach the language of Damodar, Joshua, Nanak and Farid,' four poets - Hindu, Sikh, Christian and Muslim - who all wrote in Punjabi.
