The Great 8: Frequently Asked Questions about Graduate Students and Careers
April 18, 2018, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm
Danielle Barkley from UBC’s Centre for Student Involvement & Careers will be providing an information session for Language Sciences graduate students on careers beyond academia! All graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in Language Sciences and in associated departments are welcome to attend.
This interactive session provides a forum and facilitated conversation for the most common questions that emerge around career planning and professional development for graduate students, including:
- Who are the employers who hire graduate-level candidates?
- What should I do during my program to make myself employable?
- How do I make time for career development when I have a thesis to write?
Participants will also be provided with career development resources appropriate for advanced degree holders.
Danielle Barkley holds a PhD in English literature from McGill University. She has worked as a university instructor, academic writing consultant, and freelance writer, and is now the Graduate Career Educator at UBC’s Centre for Student Involvement & Careers.
