Research Themes: Evolving Language in an Information Economy
Ron Darvin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Language and Literacy Education at UBC.
His current research examines how learners of unequal material, cultural, social, and linguistic resources develop diverse digital practices, and how sociotechnical structures and algorithmic processes of various technologies shape online language practices.
Ron was a Vanier Scholar of the UBC Language and Literacy Education Department (LLED), and in 2017, he received an Emerging Scholar Award from the Language and Social Processes SIG of the American Educational Research Association (AERA).
Research Interests: online language practices, social class, globalization, digital literacies, investment.
