The Synergy Progam

The Synergy Program is a bridge between UBC researchers in the LangSci network and industry and community partners involved with the Master of Data Science - Computational Linguistics (MDS-CL)'s capstone projects. Through this program, we are working to formalize these capstone projects into a seedbed for ongoing joint academic-industry-community research projects. It also offers opportunities for students to support grant proposals, such as SSHRC Partnership Engage Grant and Mitacs Accelerate Grant. 

This project is led by Dr. Bryan Gick and Dr. Garrett Nicolai. Together, they work to identify potential candidates – both industry partners and interested trainees – and serve as academic PI in several early pilot collaborations, such as with Ocarina Studios. These collaborations have since grown into sustained research collaborations.
