Research Themes: The Communicating Mind and Body
Katy is a MSc Speech Language Pathology Student at the UBC School of Audiology and Speech Sciences, and completed her BA in Speech Sciences and Psychology in 2020 from UBC. She has aspirations in medical speech language pathology and is deeply passionate about knowledge translation, bridging research with clinical care, to inform evidence based practice. During her undergraduate studies, Katy conducted research with infant and pediatric populations under Dr. Janet Werker and Dr. AJ Orena at the UBC Infant Studies Centre, investigating early voice learning in 4 and 8 month old infants, as well as voice, word & sound recognition abilities in children with cochlear implants. After her undergraduate degree, she worked with individuals with chronic and neurodegenerative brain conditions at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health's BC Brain Wellness Program. Currently, she is a graduate student pursing a Master's Thesis under Dr. Stacey Skoretz at the Swallowing Innovations Lab and is interested in studying dysphagia and swallowing in those with Parkinson's Disease and other neurodegenerative, acute, or chronic conditions.
