Research Themes: Language, Sustainability and Transnationalism
Caroline L. Rieger is an applied linguist, fascinated by languages, especially languages in use and how they shape humanity and the human experience (cognition, communication, communities, cultures). Her current and future research projects focus on two fields in particular, pragmatics — discursive pragmatics and interlanguage/intercultural pragmatics, as well as their interfaces — and multidisciplinary translation studies. In translation studies, she is primarily interested in cultural and pragmatic equivalence in literary and scholarly translation, including politeness phenomena and the importance of paralinguistic elements for translation.
