From a small, humble initiative to becoming one of the four GREx institutes at UBC, Language Sciences is inspired by the great work of our growing cross-disciplinary member community. On this special occasion, we are taking a moment to celebrate our collective accomplishments, and reflect on Language Sciences' progress, especially regarding its Five Grand Challenges, and the journey ahead.

We've lined up an exciting and diverse range of our seed-funded and member-led research projects, including decoding speech from brain signals, high-risk cancer detection with LLMs, a gender diversity & voice project, afrocentric AI, child language brokering, and many more.
