Title: Operationalizing culturally responsive practices in paediatric speech-language pathology
Keynote Speaker Biography:
Dr. Washington focuses her research on typical and disordered speech-language development in monolingual and multilingual preschoolers. Her efforts are centered around characterising children in the context of their environment using the lens offered by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health. By applying this framework, she seeks to inform culturally responsive practices that distinguish development from disorder. Dr. Washington's work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health to investigate Jamaican children's communication profiles for Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools and is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
