Event Details

SFU and UBC have been hosting a joint colloquium series called LinguisticsNOW for several years. It is aimed at showcasing exciting new research in linguistics while fostering collaboration between UBC and SFU. In the past, we’ve organized one talk per term, open to both SFU and UBC students, with each event hosted at either SFU or UBC. While these talks have been inspiring, we recognized the need for a new format to better encourage collaboration between the two departments. In 2024, SFU and UBC students proposed a joint research poster session, which led to the creation of a refreshed format for LinguisticsNOW called LinguisticsNEW.

This year, we’re thrilled to introduce the second annual LinguisticsNEW event, a research showcase session open to linguistics students, postdocs, and faculty members at SFU and UBC. We welcome presentations of individual projects (from both students and faculty members), as well as presentations from labs and reading groups. Submissions can be from any area of linguistics, and poster presenters are free to discuss either ongoing research or completed research.
