Ilse Labuschagne

PhD Candidate

School of Audiology & Speech Sciences

Faculty of Medicine

Research Themes:  The Communicating Mind and Body

Ilse is a doctoral candidate at the School of Audiology and Speech Sciences.

Her research examines how listeners perceive characteristics of breathy voices, especially how they perceive noise in breathy voices.

Having studied Electronic Engineering for her undergraduate degree, she likes that mathematical models of auditory perceptual processes can be used to explain how we perform certain auditory identification and discrimination tasks. She therefore hopes to use these models to explain how noise identification and discrimination in breathy voices occur.

Research interests: the perception of voice characteristics; computer modelling of perceptual auditory processes.
