With over 100 faculty members and a growing cohort of graduate students, Language Sciences brings together some of the most impactful scholars at UBC.

Researchers from both UBC campuses and across a wide range of disciplinary areas – including Arts (over half of the affiliates, covering 10 departments), Applied Science, Science, Medicine, Education, and Business – have joined; these include Distinguished University Scholars, Canada Research Chairs, and Killam Research and Teaching award winners.

Want to join?

Any and all researchers, at both of UBC’s campuses, who study language in a scientific way are welcome to become part of UBC Language Sciences.

The current commitment is minimal: having a profile included on the Language Sciences website, receiving occasional e-mail updates from the Language Sciences team, and providing suggestions as to how the initiative should develop. Faculty and graduate students are all invited to join.

Not sure if you fit within the ‘language sciences’? We are a big-tent initiative: our members do everything from language teaching to cancer research. If you believe that a scientifically-informed view of language is or could be important to your work, you are welcome to join. As of the spring of 2017, we have also begun to welcome affiliates from outside of UBC; if you are or know of someone who would be interested in becoming a non-UBC affiliate, please let us know.
